Greenhouse Frame - Part 1 of 3

When wanting to put a greenhouse up to grow plants for sale or just as a hobby, the first step to take after ground is prepped is to install the greenhouse frame. A frame for a greenhouse is essentially the skeleton or structure that holds the film and shade cloth. Without a frame a greenhouse would not exist.

Finding a Greenhouse Frame that’s perfect for designated area

When searching for a frame to attach the film and shade cloth to it is first important to calculate the size needed before buying. A lot of people that grow plants for a garden or for hobby purposes will most likely purchase a smaller frame than somebody growing plants to sell to the public. A greenhouse can be ordered in many sizes, in order to calculate the right size estimate the size of the area it will be installed and then buy one that is comparable and will fit easily in designated area.

Professional growers normally get the larger scaled greenhouse frames such as the 27’x75’. This is one of the largest available and it provides ample space to grow many varieties of plants. Though getting a larger frame may appeal to the hobby grower, it is wise to make sure there is adequate room to install it. Often when too large of a frame is bought for designated area the buyer often may have to either shorten the length of it, or in extreme cases remove trees in order to install it.

What follows the installation of the Greenhouse Frame?

Once the greenhouse frame is installed correctly the following step is to apply the film, then the shade cloth. A greenhouse must have a protective cover of some type regardless of the climate it is installed in.

People living in cold climates generally use a very thick film; often it is white which will help hold the heat inside during cold winter months. Those living in hotter climates will need a thin to medium thickness and adequate shade cloth to prevent their plants from being burned to death in hot summer months.

Before choosing a film and shade cloth, be sure to have done enough research on the types needed for your climate. A greenhouse frame is not worth much standing alone without film to protect the plants. Because there are very few local suppliers most people hit the internet in search of the greenhouse frame that’s right for them. Due to not having the expensive overhead that some local companies face, buying a frame online can be much cheaper than buying one locally.

Often these online companies can offer free shipping, or deep discounts to make the price affordable. When choosing a frame be sure to check if there is a discount for buying the film and shade cloth at the same time. Greenhouse suppliers often offer package discounts whether selling to a hobbyist or a professional grower.
